[Purpose] We advocated in the Barcelona
Symposium in 1998 the use of Yinyang Taiji Acupuncture
which can balances the upper-lower, left-right and outer-inner Yinyang by
needling only one acu-point. In the present report, we
investigated the differences in the use of the Contra-lateral
Needling, Contra-point Needling and Yinyang Taiji Acupuncture.
[Methods] Contra-lateral Needling was
carried out mainly by reticular needling the contra-lateral
collateral of the illness spot. Contra-point Needling was
conducted by needling the point in the contra-lateral meridian
of the illness spot. Yinyang Taiji Acupuncture
was performed by selecting and acupuncturing the upper-lower,
left-right and outer-inner corresponding point of the illness
spot.
1. Application of Contra-lateral Needling
Case 1. The patient of this case had
an extreme pain and a swell in one of his fingers caused
by a squeeze in the door. He bit the corresponding spot
in the finger of the other hand at once after it happened.
Soon, the pain and the swell disappeared.
Case 2. We used reticular needling method
to needle the Shao-shang (L-11) point of a patient
suffering a sore throat and found at once that the pain
was stopped and the heat was dropped.
Case 3. The patient was reticularly needled
the Jing points of Five Shu point on
the attack of the apoplexy. He recovered his consciousness
soon and a cure without any sequelae was achieved.
2. Application of Contra-point Needling
Case 1. In this case, to treat a patient
for a pain in a shoulder joint, we needled the meridian
which is in the contra side of the pain spot. This treatment
alleviated the pain and improved the condition of the arm-lifting
difficulty.
Case 2. To treat a patient for a pain
in the outer-lower side of the kneecap, which caused a
difficulty in walking, we needled the same-named meridian
in the contra side of the body. This treatment stopped
the pain immediately and the patient could walk well.
Case 3. In the treatment of a facial
paralysis, we needled the point in the contra side meridian
and the paralysis was alleviated at once. Muscle activity
was also improved.
3. Application of Yinyang Taiji Acupuncture
(Yinyang Cross Acupuncture)
Case 1. The patient of this case had
suffered a pain in the index finger (The Large Intestine
Channel of Hand-yangming) of the right hand for
3 years and this caused a difficulty in bending and stretching
the finger. When a needle was skin-deeply inserted into
the Taibai point (Sp-3, The Spleen Channel of
Foot-taiyin) of the left foot, the pain was alleviated
and the movement of finger joints was improved immediately.
Together with these, the tenderness and a scleroma in the
abdomen disappeared. The patient was cured in a short period.
Case 2. The patient had suffered numbness
for 4 years from the wrist to the elbow in the ulna side
of the right arm (The Small Intestine Channel of Hand-taiyang).
When acupuncture was conducted in the Fuliu point
(K-7, The Kiney Channel of Foot-shaoyin) of the
left leg, the numbness was eliminated as soon as the patient
responded to the needling. The symptom was cured after
two times of treatment.
Case 3. The patient had suffered a pain
for 10 years in the right Tianzhu point (B-10,
The Bladder Channel of Foot-taiyang) in the back
of the neck and this made him could not work continuously.
When the patient responded to the needling in the Taixi point
(K-3, The Kiney Channel of Foot-shaoyin) of the
left leg, the pain was stopped. The patient was cured in
three times of treatment.
[Discussion] Usually, pernicious influences,
such as external pernicious influences of wind, cold and
dampness, and injuries from contusions and sprains, transit
from the epidermis to grandchild collaterals, collaterals,
meridians and then to the Yin and Yang organs.
In the initial stage of influences, symptoms such as headache,
heat and sore throat indicate that the perniciousness is
shallow in the body at the level from the epidermis to
collaterals. Reticular needling will be effective. In the
initial stage of an apoplexy that causes sudden falls and
hemiplegia, treating the Jing points by reticular
needling can achieve the effect of quick consciousness
recovery. All these are applications of Contra-lateral
Needling. This therapy is coincident with After that, pernicious
influences reach meridians. To treat the facial paralysis
that is called meridian stroke, an acu-point in the meridian
of the contra side is selected. When the Yin-yang balance
is adjusted after needling, the facial muscle activity
can be improved. This effectiveness is because that influences
exist in meridians, and Contra-point Needling can balance
the Yin and Yang between the left and
right meridians and, therefore, achieve the cure.
Different from the above, Yinyang Taiji Acupuncture
can adjust the functions of the organs. It can be used
to treat functional abnormalities of the organs, pernicious
influences invading and chronic symptoms such as pain,
numbness, swelling, heat, itch and skin diseases. The Taiji point
is a point that can adjust the upper-lower, left-right
and outer-inner Yin and Yang. Needling
(a skin needle etc. will do) this point usually improves
simultaneously the conditions of tenderness, scleromata,
pits, bulges, cold and heat in the abdomen.
[Conclusion] Thus it can be seen that
Contra-lateral Needling, Contra-point Needling and Yinyang
Taiji Acupuncture adjust the Yinyang balances
of collaterals, meridians and the organs, respectively.
Therefore, we believe that quick effects can be obtained
if the treatment methods are selected according to the
stage of symptoms.
